Quilt Symposium 2015

National Quilt Symposium is over for 2015 - and what a wonderful event it was. RCQ can be very proud of the huge part they played as one of the clubs organising it all.
The stage on opening night at the Regent featured fabulous poppies.

Prize winners were announced and this quilt by Melanie Martin won Bernina best of show :

There were several exhibitions about town. In the Convention Centre was the main judged exhibition.
all dressed up outside the Convention Centre :-)
Each of the clubs involved with Symposium was asked to run a club challenge : size A3 Portrait, using Black, white and a specific colour (Rose City Quilters' colour was red). Members were asked to consider portraying what is special to them about their area. Each club chose 3 quilts from their entries to hang in the foyer of the major Quilt Exhibition at Symposium to greet people as they enter. See our club winners HERE.
This beautiful quilt also on display in the foyer was a raffle :

See some of the quilts on display at the Convention Centre posted by one of our members HERE and by another quilter HERE.
The Symposium dinner is always a highlight.

On Sunday night we were treated to fabulous food and a wonderful display of past entrants from Evento - our local High School wearable arts competition held annually in Feilding.
Girls' High School was a great venue again for the the classes and lectures
We had a wonderful variety of talented tutors and speakers - see more in a blogpost by one of our members about the tutors' exhibition HERE.
And then it was the closing ceremony
Seen from both sides :-)
Next Symposium is in Christchurch in October 2017 - find out all about it HERE.
